Sex & Gasoline

So much beauty abs & tush
Swoop down on you like a burnin bush
Pop religion bullwhip thin
Says you aint nothing but the shape youre in
Come on now girl genuflect nude magazine
This mean old world runs on sex and gasoline

19 candles adorn your cake
Lifes simple pleasures is a chance you take
So here’s the skinny indulge the urge
Then sometime later you can binge & purge
Come on little girl we both know what I mean
This mean old world runs on sex and gasoline

Your pushing thirty why you old hag
Here’s something dirty for your shopping bag
You spend the money and here’s the deal
We’ll do our best to mend your sex appeal
Ah come on dear girl the process is routine
This mean old world runs on sex and gasoline

Your over forty thats it for you
I’m pretty sure there’s nothing else that we can do
Perhaps the convent Perhaps the knife
You woulda coulda shoulda been a rich mans wife
Come on old girl Lolita in her prime was yet thirteen
This star crossed world runs on sex and gasoline

Tired ol story sad but true
We mama’s boy’s have got it in for you
Our faults are many our virtues nil
We never loved you and we never will
Ah come on now girl It’s time we both come clean
This mean old world runs on sex and gasoline
From the first grade princess to the last homecoming queen
The Star crossed world riuns on sex and gasoline
The whole wide world runs on sex and gasoline
Oh yes and your momma’s world ran on sex and gasoline

Moving Work Of Art

Time is jammed and flying fast
Brakes are bad the pot holes rough
I’m out here running from the past
What we had was not enough

Heard she’s just touched down in Hollywood
And her friends all say she’s looking good
I saw it coming from the start
She’s a moving work of art

The night is thick the moon rings red
The stars are out of place
My mind is liquid in my head
Beneath the waves I see her face

Bet she pulls herself some tall coin down
Turning heads out there in Tinsel Town
She’s so cool it breaks your heart
She’s a moving work of art

Who we were and what we had
Keeps me guessing to this day
It’s enough to drive me mad
She’s a million miles away

I know she’s out there thinking on her feet
Making passes thrown fall incomplete
She’s as smooth as she is smart
She’s a moving work of art

It’s how she sets herself apart
She’s a moving work of art

The Rise and Fall of Intelligent Design

If I could have just one wish maybe for an hour
I’d want to be a woman and feel that phantom power
Maybe I’d stick around for a while til my heart got broke
Maybe then I could find out if I’m a half decent man
Or if I’m just a joke
If I could be the first woman president I’d take on air pollution
I’d walk the streets of Baghdad at dawn to find a real solution
I’d bare my soul for the people to read
I’d make my secrets known
I’d probably be assasinated first day in office
Or die somewhere alone
Its no excuse to be obtuse
It’s no excuse to be deaf dumb and blind
When evolution is a thing of no use
It likes to call itself intelligent design

So here’s the world in the palm of my hand
How come I’m feeling so tender
It’s a mans world I’ve heard it since birth
I’m out of touch with my gender
I want to feed the hungry I want to heal the sick
I want to stifle the causes of suffering and hate
I want to know my enemy by the look in his eyes
I want to stop all this madness before it’s too late
I don’t care if you think I’ve gone crazy
Messianic delusion is a backbreaking grind
I’ve got a dog and a gold fish and a friend in the Navy
Don’t know nothing bout Intelligent design
It’s no excuse to be brutal It’s no excuse to be vile
Its no excuse to die for religion or harm an innocent child
Its no excuse to be a slick politician
When the whole of New Orleans is drowning in brine
If I’m not mistaken it was Darwins position
The hole in the levy was caused by intelligent design

Truth Decay

You’ve got me worried now It makes me feel somehow
As If the world is gonna break
I come up short on breath it’s like I’m scared to death
I might make an old mistake

I’d grown accustomed to the comfort
Nothing heavy on my plate
I’d come to see myself as free at last
But now I just don’t feel that great

I cant love you like I want to
When it depends on what I dont do
Every chance to see the real you or to feel you
Slips away Truth Decay

It throws me off my game .. nothing feels the same
I get so dizzy I cant think
I dig down deep in doubt until there’s no way out
I’m just so busy on the brink

I liked to think I make a difference
As if indeed somehow I could
It was always up to you girl
And this I never understood

I can’t love like I want to
When it comes down to what I don’t do
In my hunger for the real you I can feel you
Slip away Truth Decay

I can’t love you with my hands tied
It’s like walking barefoot down a land slide
If I can’t be there when you need me do you read me
When I say It’s truth decay

I Want You # 35

Daddy bought you like a toy
Momma taught you to be coy
Make your bed down in the dirt
Bow your head lift your skirt
From your lips to my ears
All down through your tender years
Poor little rich girl junk food eiress
Born in Fort Worth raised in Paris
Listen honey screw the money
I want You

Something changed you laid you low
Dulled your senses made you slow
Wrote your name down in it’s book
Staked a claim on how you look
I can’t blame you if you think
I’d tie you to the kitchen sink
Drain your pockets drink your blood
Drag you through the muck and mud
It must be said you made your bed
But I want you

It’s the way your hair falls in your face
And the way you move from place to place
It’s the way you wear your curse
As if there could be something worse
Than living in a glass house sty
Waiting for the bricks to fly my my my

So he left you with no God
Trapped behind that cracked facade
Half a woman half a heart
Not too dumb not too smart
All at once something clicks
Hit’s you like a ton of bricks
Circumstances bent to break you
Why oh why would God forsake you
Vis a Vie him or me
I want you
Were a long shot pair but I don’t care
I want you

I’ve Done Everything I Can

I love to hear you laughing
love to see you smile
Dance that little dance you danced
When you were just a child
The way the world came at you
Left you bitter and confused
The more I tried to guide your past
The more you just felt used

The sun comes up tomorrow
But there are no guarantees
It can rock you like a baby
It can knock you to your knees
The path that lies between us
Is a star-crossed avenue
I’ve done everything I can
There’s nothing I can do

So you love that girl to death
And you’re scared to take a breath
It’s like everything you dread
Swings a hammer in your head
So her heart’s locked in a vault
And you think it’s all your fault
It’s a dream as old as dirt
You can’t stand to see her hurt

May the little voice that guides you
Send a message through from me
Reminding you you’re beautiful
And will forever be
I wish that I could be there now
To tell you it’s all right
It’s a dark and daunting razor’s edge
You’re walking on tonight

The sun comes up tomorrow
But there are no guarantees
It can rock you like a baby
It can knock you to your knees
The path that lies between us
Is a rough and rocky rue
I’ve done everything I can
There’s nothing I can do

So you’re learning to let go
And the process is so slow
And while your baby plumbs the depths
You keep climbing up the steps
She was daddy’s little girl
You were ruler of the world
And now she’s out there in the fray
But she’ll be back someday

You’ve heard me say a million times
My work is never done
For those who keep the wolves at bay
There is no setting sun
To see you standing here today pray tell you’ve come so far
Which proves that you can find your way
No matter where you are

The sun comes up tomorrow
But there are no guarantees
It can rock you like a baby
It can knock you to your knees
The path that lies between us is the long way home, it’s true
I’ve done everything I can
And there’s nothing I can do
I’ve done everything I can
Look at you

Who Do You Trust?

Move me if you must but don’t try to make my life easy
I don’t want to be somebody I cant bear to be
I don’t want to stand in the back
And I can’t sit down up front
I don’t wanta wear the ball and jack
And I don’t want to punt
Who do you trust
Who do you wanta put you faith in

You know how to live somewhat better than the rest
You know how to be somebody when you’re put to the test
Upside down inside out you don’t ever stumble
You know what you’re talkin’ about
You don’t ever fumble
Who do you trust
Who do you wanta put your faith in

They say that true love conquers all
But they don’t tell you who to call hmm?

If I do unto others the way I want it done to me
Will I get into heaven well I guess I’ll have to wait and see
This life’s a game of hide and go seek
I don’t know where I stand
When I turn the other cheek
They hit me with the other hand
Who do you trust
Who do you wanta put your faith in

They say that time heals every wound
I guess we’ll have to just stay tuned
That same old world outside my door
Always leaves me wanting more hmm?

The Night’s Just Right

I dont mind the thought of growing old
But I don’t want to lose my sense of humour
I’m ok as long as I can laugh
I don’t care if everything goes wrong
Even if it’s only for a while
I’m allright if I can see you smile
You’re an old fashioned girl
At home in the modern world
The night’s just right my love

If somewhere down the line the wheels come off
You may find me broke down by the highway
I’m allright as long as I can walk
If it comes to pass I’m losing touch
As long as I can feel you close to me
I know I’m where I’m supposed to be
You’re an old fashioned girl
At home in the modern world
The nights just right my love

Maybe I’m crazy maybe I’m not
Maybe this moment is all we have got

I don’t think that I’m afraid to die
Still in all I’d rather live forever
See a million full moons rising in the sky
Morning sunlight shining in your eye
You’re an old fashioned girl
At home in the modern world
The nights just right my love

The nights just right my love

Forty Winters

Forty winters cold and dark surround you like a beauty mark
A tilt of the axis says that time of year
And the flush of your cheekbones says no damage here
The first time I saw you twas ice on the ground
A girl in a green house meant paradise found
For Forty Winters
Forty Winters
Forty winters
Forty winters

Forty winters striaght in line were you not my valentine
Orange Blossom’s Sandalwood Oak Moss and Musk
Fragrant the senses from daylight til dusk
You made the simple life fit for a king
And oatmeal by candle light a beautiful thing
For forty winters
Forty winters
Forty winters
Forty winters

Why can’t I break the spell shake you and make you well
What is it blinding me that keeps you from finding me
I know you’re in there You haven’t gone somewhere
God only knows about leaving me frozen out
All I can promise you this I wont let you drown in the mist

Forty winters cold and drear could not age you one short year
It’s like your trapped neath a bell jar as big as the earth
And I’m running to reach you for all that I’m worth
I’ll bathe you and feed you and tend to your grace
But don’t make me leave you in such a dark place

I’m drunk on the bitterness sorrow demands
And I know that tomorrow is out of my hands
Until were together I’ll sleep in the snow
I’ll love you forever and thats all I know (about)
Forty winters
Forty winters
Forty winters
Forty winters
Forty Winters
Forty Winters

Closer To Heaven

I don’t like hummus I hate long lines
Nosey neighbors and Venitian blinds
Chirpy news anchors alter my mood
I’m offended by buzzwords like awesome and dude
I look like a trainwreck I feel like a blob
Til you get to know me you might think I’m a snob
But I’m closer to heaven than I’ve ever been

I don’t eat sushi I don’t smoke grass
I don’t wear pajama’s I don’t drive fast
I hate idle gossip and wing tip shoes
Slick politicians give me the blues
I don’t like limo’s I don’t play golf
I don’t own a rifle that will blow your head off
But I’m closer to heaven than I’ve ever been

I’m riding the wave from cradle to grave
I’m learning to feel my hands on the wheel

I love my friends I love my wife
My four little babies are the light of my life
I love Sissy Spacek I love Guy Clark
All the bisquits and gravy I can eat with a fork
I don’t want to be famous who gives a damn
I just want to be happy wherever I am
And I’m closer to heaven than I’ve ever been
I’m closer to heaven than I’ve ever been

Thanks Sean - nice to see I got most of the lyrics correct but in reality they should have been included with the CD rather than be posted on this site.
In my opinion the overall CD packaging is not up to the standard of Rodney's previous releases.

I'm on the fence, but I tend to agree the packaging is important. There is a british label called 4AD that is known for the great lengths it goes with it's presentation of an album... the packaging and artwork at times outshine the music itself. I used to buy ANYTHING 4AD released, just because it was presented so well.

If it makes you feel any better, the promo CD of S&G I got a while back doesn't have any art or sleeve at all! :(

It's nice to have the lyrics included in the original package. But in the interest of saving trees and accepting that music is now purchased by downloading 1 track at a time it's fair enough that they simply post the lyrics online. Most often these days we don't even get the lyrics.

Hey, I haven't been able to read the lyrics from the past couple CDs anyway without reading glasses. If they post the lyrics online people affected with low vision can access the lyrics by being able to adjust the fonts on their computers.

So it's a win / win.

Funny you should say that. I was at a Rodney show at the Birchmere after Outsiders came out. When RC asked the crowd what they'd like to hear, one lady said she couldn't read the lyrics because of the small print. RC laughed and said neither could he - he then suggested going online and making the font as big as you want
Hey, you're not Rodney are you :?:

I remember a show in Chester New York, a woman requested RC sing a song. He said he couldn't remember all the words. She pulled out the lyrics from her CD. Then he said he couldn't read the tiny print. Another person lent RC some glasses and he proceeded to read/sing the song and it was great.

I think the song was Alone, but Not Alone - Star you were there, do you remember which song?

They played two shows that night. RC and the boys were having so much fun till they would have played all night, but Jedd had reached the silly limit with the drinks and finally dissolved into the giggles and then the drummer too, so ended a grand night.

Oh Yeah..Chester! I remember that show! I had forgot the name of the town in NY that was. Thanks for reminding me.

I'm not sure about the song now. I just remember the lady from Ireland? asking Rodney to please sing Please Remember Me! And, she offered to sing backup for him, if he would play it. And, he accepted! And, she was good! And, I gave Will a quilt I made for him! And, it was a great night! Too BAD it had to end!!!!!!!!!

Don't you want to put a pic of Will holding the quilt? You made a beautiful quilt and it looked just like Will on the front.

You have a wonderful creative talent.
